Are there rules to this session?
We don’t have any rules, we just want to play and have fun! But with all sessions, good session etiquette makes for an enjoyable play for all.
- No one person leads the session, we play as we feel with drink and chat in between
- We mainly play in the traditional folk style, joining in with each other where we can, people wanting to mainly perform and listen to sung “songs” individually might prefer one of the local round-the-room or acoustic sessions
- As we play in a small space with the bar and diners in close proximity, we suggest that we have just one bodhran or light percussionist playing at one time. Lots of sessions have a one bodhran one backer (guitar on chords) rule so the session doesn’t become too loud or difficult to hear each other
- If you’re not sure of a tune others are playing, listen and hold back. Listening and self awareness helps lots!
- Do ask each other questions -what was that tune, who is it by etc
Most importantly – enjoy and make friends!
